Hello everyone...
The week after the Canmore WorldCup (15 July), I did a small race in Vail, Colorado ( the venue for the 2001 World MTB Championships!) There was a DH World Cup, so I decided to go up and race in the citizens event. It was very beautiful up there, and I managed to win the race, ahead of Sobe/Headshok's Erik Jones! During that week in Boulder I was out at a cycling fund-raiser event, and just by coincidence I meet John Hume (former 6x New Zealand national champion, who lived in Boulder for 5 years!) So, on Saturday I went with John and Carla (John's wife) and watched the Red Zinger Road Race, one of the hardest one day events in the world! We had a great time cheering on NZ road rider Brendon Vesty, as he rode away early and took a huge money ($US5000) prime at the top of the second climb. He eventually ended up in 10th, which was fantastic!

The following week I got a sore throat, and it just would not go away. I stopped training and after 5 days began a 10 day course off antibiotics. This put me out of the next two NORBA rounds and kind of ruined any chance of having a great Mercury Tour of the Rockies.

The tour began on Wednesday, and my primary focus was just to get back some form, to prepare as best possible for the Olympics, now just 6 weeks away! I rode pretty consistent, finishing 7th, 6th, 10th and 5th in the 4 major stages. Overall I finished 7th. This was pretty much as I expected, and I really feel some good motivation to put everything into these final weeks preparation before the games.

I know have one more week in Boulder, Colorado. Then I will be traveling to Switzerland for a Swiss cup, and then the final of the World Cup. After that I will travel directly to Sydney and join a team training camp with Volvo/Cannondale until 2 days before the big race.

Later, Kashi

No sign of Kashi in the last two NORBA races, but his Kiwi Olympic team mate Suzy Pryde completed her first NORBA short track event. No sign of her in the top ten of the long course. Oops, there ya go. 16th place

NORBA results long course Kashi's Volvo Cannondale team mate, veteran Tinker Juarez must be the oldest cyclist to make the Olympics at 39 years of age. His other two XC buddies Sauser and Evans will also presumably hose into their country's respective teams.

Short-Track Cross-Country:
Women:
1. Chrissy Redden (CAN, Gary Fisher/Saab)
2. Alla Epifanova (RUS, Volvo-Cannondale)
3. Jimena Florit (ARG, RLX Polo Sport)
